Morupule Colliery was established in 1973 to supply coal to Bamangwato Concession Limited (B.C.L.) Copper/Nickel mine and its adjacent coal fired power station established by the Botswana Power Corporation (B.P.C.).
Coal was dispatched by rail to both operations located at Selibe-Phikwe, some 150km to the North East.
The Colliery has subsequently expanded considerably with the commissioning of the Morupule Power Station and the Botswana Ash Operation.
A dry screening plant was installed in 1989 and the Colliery supplies graded coal to B.C.L. and many small industries including:
· B.M.C.(Lobatse and Francistown)
· Textile Industries
· Botswana Breweries
· Food Processing Industries
· Brick works
· Coal traders
